Willard Real Estate and Community Information

Willard Real Estate and Community Information

Willard, with a population of around 5,200 residents, is located just northwest of Springfield, Missouri. The area was first settled by European-Americans in 1857, and several homes and buildings from the 19th century still stand. Willard is noted for sending two athletes to the Olympics – Jason Pyrah (in 1996 and 2000) and Lori Endicott (in 1992). Former Attorney General of the United States, John Ashcroft, also hails from Willard.

Shopping and Dining

As Willard is a primarily residential town, there is limited shopping within the city limits. The few stores in town include Bolton's General Store, for just about everything; Sunshine Hill Gifts, for Ozark crafts and gift items; and Jim D. Folsom Crafts, for local pottery and other craft items. For other items, Willard real estate owners need only venture to Springfield, just five miles away. Springfield has all of the popular big box retailers as well as the 150-store Battlefield Mall, plus the huge Bass Sporting Goods flagship store.

Restaurants are also limited in Willard, but there are a few tasty favorites in town. These include Ziggies Cafe, a popular breakfast spot; Downtown Barbecue; and Rocco's Pizza for Italian food. However, Willard real estate owners won't have to worry about finding somewhere to eat. Living near Springfield means easy access to more than 800 restaurants, serving everything from fast food to fine dining.

Parks and Recreation

One of the best things about owning Willard real estate is the abundance of nearby outdoor recreational opportunities. The Willard Park and Recreation Department manages five city parks, an aquatic center and an indoor recreation complex. Park facilities include basketball courts, picnic facilities, a swimming pool, playgrounds and a walking trail.

Southwest Missouri is Ozark Mountain country, and the scenic region offers a wide range of outdoor activities, including hiking, mountain biking, rock climbing and fly fishing. For boating and swimming, there are six recreational lakes within 50 miles of Willard.

Branson, a favorite of music lovers, is just a short drive away. In addition to that city's many concert venues, Branson is home to the Titanic Museum, a wax museum and a host of other, slightly-off-beat attractions.

Living

Willard real estate runs the gamut from range-style homes to century homes to sprawling estates. Unlike other Springfield suburbs, Willard still offers a number of homes built before 1950 as well as new construction. Willard real estate tends to be more affordable than other area communities. In May, 2012, the average listing price in Willard was just over $102,000. Willard property taxes are also reasonable, at .7 percent.

Schools, Health and Transportation

Children in Willard attend the schools of the Willard School System. The district has eight schools, including five elementary schools, two middle schools and a high school. The district has earned Missouri's 4A designation, the state's second-highest rating. For higher education, nearby Springfield offers Willard real estate owners a number of choices. Among these are Missouri State University, Drury University, Baptist Bible College and Ozark Technical Community College.

Willard is home to a number of doctors', dentists' and veterinarians' offices. For urgent care, emergency medicine and inpatient health care, Springfield offers six hospitals with a combined total of more than 2,200 beds. Two of these facilities, CoxHealth and Mercy Health Care System are ranked among the top hospitals in the United States.

You're never too far away from anything in the compact town of Willard. State Route 160, which cuts right through town, connects Willard with nearby Springfield. From there, you can take SR 13 northwest to Kansas City or I-44 northeast to St. Louis. For longer trips, Springfield-Branson National Airport is just a 20-minute drive away. This modern airport offers daily, non-stop flights to 30 US cities, including Atlanta, Denver, Dallas and Las Vegas.
