Rogersville, located just east of Springfield, Missouri in the heart of the Ozark Mountains, is a small bedroom community of around 3,000 residents. According to the city's Web site, Rogersville has experienced rapid growth, increasing its population by more than 100 percent in the last ten years.

Shopping and Dining

Rogersville is home to a select group of locally-owned retailers, offering everything from housewares to artwork. Among these are Celebrating Home, Apple Market grocery store, Larson Farm and Lawn, and the Vintage Butterfly, which features a good selection of local artwork and crafts. Shopping in nearby Springfield, just ten miles away, includes all of the popular big box stores as well as the 150-store Battlefield Mall and the 300,000-square foot flagship store of Bass Sporting Goods.

Rogersville real estate owners have a number of restaurants from which to choose. Local favorites include Cozumel Mexican Restaurant and Sky Dragon Chinese Restaurant. In addition to the restaurants in Rogersville, there are more than 800 eateries, offering everything from barbecue to Thai cuisine, just down the road in Springfield.

Parks and Recreation

One of the best things about owning Rogersville real estate is the abundance of outdoor recreational opportunities to be enjoyed here. The park in Rogersville features a playground, a ball field and plenty of green space to relax and enjoy the outdoors. In addition, the Ozark Mountains which surround the city offer a wide range of outdoor sports activities, including hiking, mountain biking, rock climbing and fly fishing. There are also six recreational lakes within an hour's drive of Rogersville.

For concerts or a quick weekend getaway, the music mecca of Branson is located an easy hour's drive away. In addition to its dozens of music and concert venues, Branson is home to several wineries, the Titanic Museum and a sparkling new lakefront shopping and dining complex.


Rogersville real estate runs the gamut from modest ranch homes to sprawling, multi-million dollar estates. Many Rogersville residents work in nearby Springfield and commute back and forth daily. Because of the city's rapid growth, a large number of the Rogersville's single family homes are located in planned developments, many of which offer amenities such as community swimming pools, party centers and neighborhood security.

The average home listing price in Rogersville for May, 2012 was $261,000, and property taxes in Rogersville are a reasonable $.71 per $100 of assessed property value. According to the city of Rogersville, the city has a cost of living that's consistently 10 percent less than the national average.

Schools, Health and Transportation

Children of Rogersville real estate owners attend the schools of the Logan-Rogersville R-VIII School District. The district operates six schools: a primary school (grades K-1), an elementary school (grades 2-3), an upper elementary school (grades 4-6), a middle school (grades 7-8), a high school (grades 9-12), and the Southwest Education Center, an alternative school.

For higher education, there are several colleges and universities located in nearby Springfield. Among these are Missouri State University, Ozark Technical Community College, Bible Baptist College and Drury University, a liberal arts college ranked #10 by U.S. News among Midwest regional universities.

For health care needs, the 24-hour Fordland Clinic is just five miles east of Rogersville in the town of Fordland. For more extensive health care services, including inpatient care, there are six hospitals in nearby Springfield with a combined total of more than 2,200 beds. Two of these facilities, CoxHealth and Mercy Health Care System, have been listed among the two 100 hospitals in the United States.

It's not difficult getting around Rogersville. You're rarely more than a couple of minutes away from any point in this small town. State Route 60, which passes through the south side of the city, connects Rogersville with Springfield. For trips out of state, Springfield-Branson National Airport is located on the north side of Springfield, just 20 minutes away, and offers 30 non-stop flights to more than a dozen cities throughout the United States, including Chicago, Las Vegas, Atlanta and Denver.
