Battlefield Real Estate and Community Information

Battlefield Real Estate and Community Information

Battlefield, located just southwest of Springfield, Missouri, is one of the fastest-growing communities in southwest Missouri. The town of around 5,000 residents more than doubled its population in the last 10 years. The city of Battlefield takes its name from the Battle of Wilson's Creek, an early Civil War battle. Most of the city's residents commute to work in nearby Springfield.

Shopping and Dining

Battlefield is a primarily residential community with very little shopping within the city limits. However, Battlefield real estate owners will find plenty of places to shop just outside of town in Springfield. Shopping in Springfield includes the 150-store Battlefield Mall, the historic Commercial Street shopping district in downtown Springfield and the massive Bass Sporting Goods flagship store.

Because of its small size, the number of restaurants in Battlefield is also limited. There's a Godfather's pizza outlet as well as the locally-owned DJ Cafe. However, owners of Battlefield real estate needn't go hungry. Springfield, just five miles away, boasts more than 800 eateries. There, you can find everything from Italian food to Mexican to sushi.

Parks and Recreation

One of the best things about owning Battlefield real estate is the abundance of nearby outdoor recreational opportunities. Wilson's Creek National Battlefield Park, the site of the first Civil War battle west of the Mississippi River, is located just southwest of the town of Battlefield. The 1,750-acre site features a restored 1850s farmhouse that was once used as a field hospital and now houses a museum; the pastoral, now-peaceful battlefield; and hiking, biking and horse riding trails.

The Ozark Mountains, which encompass most of southwestern Missouri, offer Battlefield residents additional outdoor sports opportunities, including hiking, rock-climbing, fly-fishing and kayaking. There are also six recreational lakes within an hour's drive of Battlefield.

Music lovers will likely appreciate Battlefield's close proximity to Branson. The music mecca, with its dozens of concerts halls and outdoor amphitheaters is just a short drive away.

Living

Much of Battlefield real estate is newer construction due to the city's recent, rapid growth, and most properties here are single family homes. Battlefield real estate is somewhat more affordable than property in other Springfield suburbs, with the average listing price in May, 2012 of just over $178,000. Real estate in Battlefield ranges from single level, ranch-style homes to two-level, traditional-style homes.

Schools, Health and Transportation

School age children in Battlefield attend the schools in the Springfield School District or in the Republic School District, depending on where they live. The Springfield District serves families who live on the north side of town while the Republic District serves children on the south side of Battlefield. For higher education, Springfield offers a number of excellent colleges and universities. Among these is Missouri State University, with an enrollment of more than 20,000 undergraduate students; Drury University, a well regarded liberal arts college ranked #10 among regional Midwest universities by U.S. News; Baptist Bible College, a small theological school; and Ozark Technical Community College.

Though there are no urgent care facilities or hospitals directly in Battlefield, residents are just a few miles away from the myriad of health care facilities located in Springfield. That city boasts six full-service hospitals with a combined total of more than 2,200 beds. Two of these hospitals--Mercy Health Care System and CoxHealth--are ranked among the top 100 hospitals in the United States.

The city of Battlefield measures just two square miles, making it easy to get around. State Route 60, which passes just north of town, connects the city with Springfield, located just five miles away. For longer trips, Springfield-Branson National Airport is located about 20 minutes away from Battlefield, on the northeast side of Springfield. This 2.750-acre facility has a modern terminal that just opened in 2009 and offers daily non-stop flights to 30 destinations, including Denver, Dallas, Chicago and Atlanta.
